Google Chrome 3D WebGL with Launch of ANGLE Graphics Driver Project

Google has a new open-source project for its browser Chrome, the 3D rendering functions without the need for user download additional drivers will improve. Dubbed ANGLE (Fast indigenous Graphics Engine Layer), the project aims to allow users content WebGL Windows installed without the necessary drivers traditionally run OpenGL.

WebGL is a platform for cross-API (Application Programming Interface) with hardware-accelerated 3D graphics for writing Web applications, and many Windows computers are currently not able to make the content WebGL because of the OpenGL Drivers are not installed. That was no problem for computers with OS X or Linux, OpenGL is the primary 3D API, but on Windows the most widely used application is Microsoft Direct3D API, which is also the basis for the graphical API 360.

According to Henry Bridge project manager, this means that “even if not a powerful graphics hardware for many Windows machines can do stuff WebGL because the necessary drivers installed OpenGL ANGLE shortage … should make it easier to prototype this to build applications on Windows and are also options for developers to deploy new production versions of its code on the desktop. ”

This includes support for developers working on applications for mobile and embedded devices, and increases the profitability of the hardware-accelerated 3D graphics in Web pages.

The project is licensed under the BSD open-source, which could promote the involvement of others with proprietary software. While Microsoft has been guarded in its support, people like Firefox, Safari and Opera have begun to implement the new technology WebGL.
